There’s something rather lovely about a beach when the day is almost done.

In Sensibility, Janet Gammans captures a couple walking together along the shoreline as the last light of the day fills the sky. Warm oranges and soft yellows meet complementary shades of purple, their colours reflected across the wet sand below.

Sand dunes and distant land frame the scene, while the two figures give the painting a wonderful sense of scale and quiet companionship. It’s atmospheric without feeling dramatic – a beautifully balanced original that captures one of those fleeting moments you wish you could hold onto for a little longer.
